Russian troops return from Kazakhstan

As unprecedented large-scale protests quickly turned violent, Kazakhstan’s President Kassim-Jomart Tokayev asked for help from the Collective Security Treaty Organization, a Russian-led group of six former Soviet states military alliance. The EU sent more than 2,000 troops to Kazakhstan last week, and Tokayev declared their mission largely complete on Tuesday. (Russian Defense Ministry News Service via The Associated Press)
