Italy’s police union has written to the interior ministry, insisting that pink Covid-19 masks issued to police could damage their reputation.
The union said this week that law enforcement officers’ masks should be black, white or blue to match their uniforms.
They asked why, two years after the pandemic, a more suitable replacement could not be found.
“We don’t understand the reasoning behind buying a mask in a color that at first glance doesn’t seem right for our government,” he said. wrote in the letter. It describes the pink mask regulation as “Confusing.”
Union leader Osvaldo Paoloni insisted that part of the police’s vow to always wear a ceremonial uniform was undermined by the colour of the masks provided, according to Italian media.
“We felt that the clothing and accessories used had to complement the uniform,” He said.
The Home Office has yet to comment on the matter.
