Netanyahu and Olmert face off in court in a defamation lawsuit

Benjamin Netanyahu’s defamation lawsuit against Ehud Olmert is ongoing, and two former Israeli prime ministers face off in a Tel Aviv court

JERUSALEM – On Monday, Benjamin Netanyahu filed a defamation lawsuit against Ehud Olmert and two former Israeli prime ministers faced off in a Tel Aviv court.

Netanyahu, his wife and son appeared in the Tel Aviv District Court to file a lawsuit against Netanyahu’s former Israeli Prime Minister Olmert.

In April last year, Olmert criticized Netanyahu in an interview with an Israeli news website and said that “what cannot be remedied is the mental illness of the prime minister, his wife and son.”

According to Hebrew media reports, Netanyahus has sued Olmert for nearly US$270,000 in damages.

Neither Netanyahu nor Olmert spoke at the court.

Olmert served as Israeli Prime Minister before Netanyahu, but resigned in 2008 before he was formally indicted on corruption charges. Olmert was convicted of fraud in 2014 and served most of the 27 months in prison.
