An Australian judge restored the visa of tennis star Novak Djokovic and ruled that he can be released from immigration detention.
Judge Anthony Kelly ordered the release of Djokovic within 30 minutes on Monday and returned his passport and other travel documents to him, reigniting the world’s No. 1 win in the upcoming Australian Open. Recorded 21st Grand Slam championship chance.
However, the federal government’s lawyer told the court that the country’s immigration minister reserves the right to exercise his personal power to revoke Djokovic’s visa again.
Since Thursday, 34-year-old Djokovic has been held in an immigration detention hotel along with long-term asylum-seeking detainees.
