Japan issues tsunami warning after major volcano eruption – Action News Now

The tsunami came after a massive eruption of an underwater volcano 65 kilometers south of the island nation of Tonga

Tsunami warnings were issued for the entire east coast of Japan and the southern chain of Amami and Treasure islands.

A tsunami triggered by an undersea volcanic eruption has hit the Pacific nation of Tonga and prompted warnings from several other countries, including the United States and Japan.

The volcanic eruption was too big seen from space.

Residents were warned to evacuate from coastal and riverside areas and seek higher ground in the early hours of Sunday, January 16, with waves expected to be as high as 3 metres.
