German health authorities accidentally injected 42 children with the Covid-19 vaccine against adults
Forty-two children between 5 and 11 years old were vaccinated with the Covid-19 vaccine for adults. The health authorities in Hanover, Germany claim that it should not increase the risk of side effects.
On Monday, a spokesperson for the Hanover regional government announced that 42 children at the City Zoo’s vaccination center had been vaccinated with a higher concentration of vaccines for adult use.
Marlene Graf, the chief expert in the health department, said the increased dose is harmless and no serious consequences are expected. “As far as we know, possible side effects should be limited to local reactions and fever,” she says.
Graf explained that from a medical point of view, there is no need to increase the vaccine dose for children, but said that this will not have a negative impact on their immunity to Covid-19.
According to German media reports, boys and girls received three times the Pfizer/BioNtech vaccine dose of their age group—30 micrograms instead of 10 micrograms.
The spokesman said that the district government has directly notified all parents of the children concerned. They have been provided with medical advice.
The regional chairman, Steffen Krach, stated that this mistake cannot be repeated. “Even if serious health consequences are not expected, this shouldn’t happen,” He said.
