Bus accident in Bulgaria killed at least 45 people | News

The Ministry of the Interior said there were about a dozen children on the bus and seven passengers were rescued and taken to the hospital.

At least 45 people were killed in a night bus accident on a highway south of the Bulgarian capital.

The cause of the accident on the highway 40 kilometers (26 miles) from Sofia on Tuesday has not been determined.

“Forty-five or 46 people were killed,” Nikolay Nikolov, head of the fire safety and civil defense department of the Ministry of the Interior, told the public broadcaster BNT.

He added that “seven passengers were rescued” and taken to a hospital in the capital.

According to the bTV channel, there were 12 children on the bus from Istanbul, the main city of Turkey, to Skopje, North Macedonia.

Prime Minister Zoran Zayev said that the victims may be compatriots of Macedonia.

“We don’t know if all the victims are from North Macedonia, but we assume that is the case because the bus is registered in that country,” he said in an interview with Nova TV.
