Burkina Faso extremists attacked at least 19 people

The Burkina Faso government news agency said at least 19 people were killed in an extremist attack in Burkina Faso, including 9 members of the security forces

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso-A government news agency said on Tuesday that at least 19 people were killed in an attack by suspected extremists in Burkina Faso, including 9 members of the security forces.

The attack is the latest in an escalation of violence related to Al Qaeda and the Islamic State across the country, killing thousands and displacing more than 1.4 million people. Earlier this month, more than 50 people were killed in the Soum province of the Sahel, including 49 military police.

A civilian in the nearby town of Balsalogo told the Associated Press that the jihadists hid behind a group of displaced people before the attack, and many people were injured. To protect his safety, he requested anonymity.

The government’s inability to stop the violence has become increasingly frustrating, and a protest is planned on November 27 to demand the resignation of President Roch Marc Christian Kabore.

“This country is in decline. The entire region is controlled by terrorists,” said Mamadou Drabo, executive secretary of the civil society organization Save Burkina.

“We think that if the president resigns, others will be able to deal with the problem because we realize that the president is the problem,” he said.
