At least 2 people killed in bombing at Serbian military factory

Belgrade, Serbia-Serbia’s national TV station RTS reported on Tuesday that a series of explosions occurred at an ammunition factory on the outskirts of Belgrade, killing at least two workers and injuring at least 16 people.

The report said that the first explosion occurred at around 2 pm in the part where the rocket was produced and can also be heard in the capital. It said rescuers are looking for possible more victims.

RTS said that 100 workers were working in the factory at the time of the explosion. The injured workers have been transferred to a hospital in Belgrade with severe burns, while more people are unaccounted for.

The police have not yet issued an official statement.

Dozens of firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene 15 kilometers (9 miles) south of Belgrade. The police and firefighters have sealed off the area where the smoke can be seen. Several cars in the factory parking lot caught fire.

In 2008, another explosion occurred in the factory, when three workers were injured.
