On Monday, a fire broke out in a nursing home in eastern Bulgaria, killing 9 people
Sofia, Bulgaria – Officials say a fire broke out in a nursing home in eastern Bulgaria on Monday, killing nine people.
At 6 pm (1600 GMT), an old school building in the eastern village of Royak was converted into a nursing home and caught fire while dozens of residents were preparing dinner.
“Unfortunately, 9 of the 58 people in the home died at the time,” fire inspector Tihomir Totev told reporters.
He added that most residents had to be evacuated from the building, and some residents were treated for smoke inhalation.
The Ministry of the Interior stated that the fire “started on the roof of the building” and had been extinguished.
